Annual Bible Bowl

The second Saturday in February is a day we always look forward to.  For about 50 years, the congregation here has been hosting the annual Bible Bowl at our building, with only a couple of years of it being held elsewhere.  Every year, a section of scripture is selected, and from December to February, our congregation and many others spend a good deal of time reading through it and trying to commit as much as possible to memory.  It is for all ages. Kindergarten through 6th grade have a slightly different set of questions that are a little simpler with fewer choices for answers.  7th – 12th have the normal set of questions but compete in their own division.  The adults (usually the largest division) welcomes anyone who want to give it a shot.  While we all try our best and teams and individuals with the best scores are recognized, you don’t have to be there long to realize it isn’t done with a competitive spirit.  We laugh and make jokes when we get the answer wrong and we laugh and make jokes when we get the answer right.  There is no set standard that is expected in order to participate.  We just try to commit to memory a section of scripture and do it in a fun and friendly atmosphere with churches from all around central Iowa taking part.
